Meet the Author and Illustrator
Sheena Newman, Author
Sheena Newman, author of LEADERS for Life…Voyage to Greatness, has spent over thirty years in the field of education. Her experience as a classroom teacher, media specialist, principal, supervisor, and a mother led her to the belief that it is important to develop leadership skills and character in children at an early age. She has studied leadership extensively, and the logical connection was to take those skills to students in the classroom.
Realizing the void in leadership materials available for elementary students, Sheena went to the Director of Schools, who encouraged her to write her own materials. LEADERS for Life…Voyage to Greatness is the result of that labor. It has a nautical theme and is based on “Eight Principals for Sailing.” The focus is on building leaders in the present in preparation for the future. It embodies traits and skills every child needs to be successful in life.
Sheena’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, an endorsement in Early Childhood Education, a degree in Library Science, a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision, and an Educational Specialist’s Degree in Educational Leadership. She is a recent graduate from the National Institute for School Leaders.
Sheena and her husband reside in Cleveland, Tennessee, where she is currently the Supervisor of Elementary Education for Bradley County Schools.
